Dusit
Last night we ate out at the Dusit Thai restaurant on Thistle St. I'd seen several recommendations for it and have wanted to try it out for a while, so when my eldest brother and companions came to visit and said they liked Thai food, it seemed time to give it a try. The reviews are justified; we had a really good meal.

I started with "Fleeing Fish", which comprises sea bass with ginger, mango, coriander and other ingredients to produce a charming mix of flavours. Mrs HtC had "Secret Garden", which was a mixture of fruit in a tamarind sauce. Even more prosaic starters such as spring rolls were excellently done.

The main courses were similarly good. When in season, they serve venison dishes done in a thai style, but May is the wrong time of year so I just had a red chicken curry instead. The youngest of our party, just 14, settled for the mild curry and found that quite spicy enough (but not too spicy). Mrs. HtC chose for a sea bass option, which again was excellent. For dessert, the stand out dish was a combination of black rice pudding and coconut ice cream - black rice being a variety of rice grown in Thailand.

So this is another recommendation. The only downsides are that it's a little more expensive than most other Thai restaurants in Edinburgh, and it's popular, so you have to book several days in advance. But it's worth it.
